Mr Daniel T Wong, General Surgeon

Mr Wong is a specialist general surgeon with an interest in complex hernia surgery.
Daniel Wong is Australian trained in a full range of general surgical procedures, utilising open or laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques.
Raised in Melbourne, Daniel graduated with MBBS from Monash University in 2000, then undertook postgraduate training at Eastern Health and Austin Health before completing advanced surgical training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2010. Daniel underwent further post-fellowship training at Northern Health, consolidating skills in general, breast and thyroid surgery, then subsequently followed international mentors to gain extensive experience in the field of abdominal wall reconstruction.
Daniel has a special interest in complex hernia surgery, and has undertaken advanced courses in Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane as well as in the UK and USA. He is well recognised in the repair of complex, large and recurrent hernias, performing these laparoscopically, open or as a hybrid of these two techniques, and is passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes through his meticulous approach, utilising the most up to date evidence. Daniel regularly provides presentations and training sessions to his peers around the country and attends hernia conferences internationally to remain up to date in the field.
Daniel also enjoys less complex surgery including skin lesions, “lumps and bumps” and toenails, and offers a wide range of other general surgery, including gallbladder and skin cancer surgery. Having trained also under auspices of plastic surgeons, he also has training in hand surgery and local flap reconstruction of lesions on the face and body.
He is also fully accredited by the Conjoint Committee to perform gastroscopy and colonoscopy, and has fulfilled strict recertification requirements.
Daniel holds consultant surgeon positions at Ballarat Health Services and St John of God Hospital Ballarat and is Director of Surgery at Maryborough Hospital and the Supervisor of Surgical Interns there. He is also actively involved in the education of trainee surgeons and is the Supervisor of Surgical Training in Ballarat, and regularly attends committee meetings at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
