Skin Lesions & Skin Cancer Surgery

Skin lesion presentation on patient shoulder.

Common skin lesions include skin cancers, as well as benign growths, ingrown toenails and lipomas.

The most common skin cancers are basal cell cancers and squamous cell cancers.  Melanoma is more serious and treatment is usually more involved.  Our surgeons will provide expert care in treating these.

Treatment of skin cancers is generally excision (removal) of the lesion.  The Specialist Centre Ballarat offers a consultative service, with the option of excision at the same appointment in our procedure room under local anaesthetic if suitable.

Depending on the location, severity and size of the lesion, excision may require a local skin flap or skin graft to reconstruct the area.  These types of lesions, particularly involving cosmetically sensitive areas, are more appropriately excised in hospital, and this can be arranged at any of our private and public centres, including associated outreach services.
